Kohima, April 14 (MExN): The Nagaland Law Students’ Federation (NLSF) has opposed the regularization of 147 contractual Assistant Professors and Librarians into regular posts under the Higher Education Department and has demanded the revocation of the state government’s order issued on December 17, 2024.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary of Nagaland, the NLSF stated, “We the NLSF after much consideration in tune with the competitive and meritorious eligible world hereby address our stance on the apparent issue pertaining the absorption or regularization of 147 posts of Assistant Professor and Librarians into regular posts in the department of Higher Education.”
“The Office of NLSF vehemently opposes any absorption or regularization of any post within the purview of NPSC and NSSB without following proper established recruitment rules,” it said, referring to the Nagaland Public Service Commission and the Nagaland Staff Selection Board.
The federation noted that while the notification regarding the regularization of the 147 posts has subsequently been declared “null and void,” the very attempt at such a move “has raised significant legal question and underscores the urgent need for a transparent and legally sound recruitment process moving forward.”
Raising concerns about violations of constitutional and legal standards, the NLSF asserted, “The NLSF is deeply concerned about any actions that appear to circumvent established legal procedures and undermine the principles of fairness and equal opportunity enshrined in the Constitution of India and relevant service rules of the State.”
It further stressed that, “The attempted regularization without adhering to the mandated recruitment processes through the NPSC raises several critical legal and ethical issues.”
The federation urged the government to reaffirm its commitment to constitutional norms and to ensure that all public appointments under NPSC and NSSB are made strictly through competitive and merit-based processes.
