Nagaland logs 18 new COVID-19 cases, 1 more fatality

Dimapur, October 23 (MExN): The cumulative tally of COVID-19 infections in Nagaland rose to 31,707 with the confirmation of 18 new cases on Saturday.

The new cases were detected among 638 samples that were tested in the last 24 hours returning a daily positivity rate of 2.82 percent. Kohima and Dimapur districts both reported 7 new cases each while Phek district reported 4 new cases.

According to the daily health bulletin issued by the state Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme, 10 of the new cases were detected from self tests and random tests, 7 were among traced contacts, and 1 was from returnees/travellers.

One COVID death was reported from Dimapur in the last 24 hours and the state’s COVID-19 death toll increased to 664. This is excluding 15 other deaths that were categorised as ‘Non COVID deaths (with COVID positivity)’ in the bulletin.

On the other hand a total of 10 patients who had previously tested positive for the virus, recuperated on Saturday taking the tally of recoveries to 29,748. The recoveries were reported from Mokokchung (6), Dimapur (3), and Kohima (1).

With this, the state’s active case tally is at 250.

In terms of severity of cases, 188 of the active cases are said to be asymptomatic, 48 are mild symptomatic and 7 are ‘moderate on oxygen’ according to the IDSP. Among those with severe symptoms, 5 are on oxygen support, 2 in the ICU (1 on ventilator).
