Nagaland logs 18 new COVID-19 cases, 9 recoveries

The number of new COVID-19 cases in Nagaland exceeded the recovery numbers on Wednesday as 18 new cases were reported against 9 recoveries.

Out of 712 samples on October 20, a total of 18 returned positive indicating a sample positivity rate of 2.53%.

According to an update from the State Health and Family Welfare department, Dimapur registered the highest number of cases with 10 new cases, followed by Kohima with 4, Wokha-2 and one each in Peren and Tuensang.

Among the districts, Wokha had the highest daily sample positivity rate of 20% with 2 out of 10 samples returning positive on Wednesday, followed by Tuensang (6.67%) with one out of 15 samples testing positive.

Majority of the new cases were from self tests and random tests (15) while Returnees/Travelers accounted for 3 cases. With Wednesday’s count, the total number of positive cases in the State has increased to 31,659.

The recoveries were also reported from Dimapur (5), Kohima (2) and one each in Mokokchung and Tuensang, taking the recovery tally to 29,702.

There are 255 active COVID-19 cases at present with 49 admitted in COVID hospitals and 186 currently under home isolation. Out of these, 184 are asymptomatic while 54 cases have been categorized as ‘Mild’ and 8 as ‘Moderate on oxygen’.

Under ‘severe cases’, 6 are on oxygen support while 1 has been admitted in the ICU (without  ventilator) and two patients are currently in the ICU (On ventilator) as per the daily COVID-19 bulletin issued by the department.

No new deaths were reported during the last 24 hours, and the State’s fatality count is 661 as on October 20. The number of deaths in the ‘not COVID related’ category is at 15.
