DIMAPUR, APRIL 17 (MExN): In line with the All India Mahila Congress (AIMC), the Nagaland Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee (NPMCC) today joined the ‘black day’ protest against what it alleged as BJP’s complicity over growing crimes against women and minors including the recent Unnao and Kathua rape cases.
According to a NPCC media cell press release, N. Lucy, NPMCC president addressing the occasion at DCC complex Dimapur, said the ‘black day’ is being observed as women and children across the nation have lost freedom, safety and security. She alleged that “merciless rapes and barbaric mutilation and murders of women and minors have increased under BJP whose complicity has rendered the country unsafe for women and children.”
Lucy said the call today is justice for Kathua victim but cautioned that the same fate may befall anyone as the ruling BJP is doing nothing to deliver justice to the victims nor to improve safety and security to women and children. She said arrests in the recent cases highlighted in the media were made because of public outcry while "BJP netas tried to shelter the accused and defended them with the National Flag." Adding that the nation is no longer safe for women and children, she said the problem was compounded by the fear of social stigma leading to many cases going unreported.
Urging the citizens to raise their voice when such instances are encountered, she appealed towards making the nation safe once again where women and minors can live in dignity without constant fear. Also addressing the programme, Tiala Sapu, working president, Dimapur District Mahila Congress Committee, said today’s protest is not a political movement but a movement of humanity to show concern against the decadence of social values and against the growing crimes being perpetrated against women and minors across the nation.
She further called upon mahila congress workers to come forward in numbers and vehemently condemned the barbaric acts and appealed for increased safety and security to women and children.
