Nagaland’s Governor La Ganesan today said that Nagaland has started making significant mark in the sporting arena to with “our sports persons continuing to excel at the various national and international events, and winning medals.”
In his Republic Day address at Nagaland Civil Secretariat Plaza, Kohima in the presence of Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, the Governor said that the Department of Youth Resources and Sports recently commissioned 5 Pre-fabricated multi discipline sports stadiums, while construction of 11 more such projects at Shamator Town, Chessore, Aboi, Phek Town, Meluri, Tening, District Office Complex Chomoükedima, Wokha Village, Pungro Town, Kezo Town and Sechu-Zubza are underway and all are expected to be completed before the end of 2024.
Recently the 'Development of Football Ground at Lakhuti, Wokha, Nagaland' sanctioned by Sports Ministry under Khelo India was completed and inaugurated on December 16, 2023.
The government is also taking up construction of several other major sports infrastructure projects, most notable among them being the synthetic turf football ground of FIFA standard international size with galleries and floodlights at NAPTC, Chümoukedima.
“We are also planning to host national and regional sporting events, such as North East Olympic Games in March 2024, and the Asian Belt & Traditional Wrestling Championships later this year, which will be the biggest ever sports event to be held in Nagaland so far,” he said.
Ganesan said that the state will also be hosting the Asia Music Summit at Kohima during the February 1-3 this year, which will be one of the country's biggest music expos, with participants expected from more than 15 countries, with 500 delegates and representatives from 5 continents.
