Nagaland: MCCI appeal organisations to lift eco blockade

Mokokchung, December 7 (MExN): The Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) on Monday impressed upon the presidents of all students’ organisations imposing the economic blockade at NH702D (Mariani-Mokokchung Road) since November 15, to lift the economic blockade at the earliest in the best interest of maintaining peace and rebuilding business relations.

In a statement on Monday, the MCCI stated that political will is required to solve the ‘unresolved border disputes’ between Assam and Nagaland.

“Imposing economic blockades is not the solution. Rather, imposing economic blockades will only multiply the problems while destabilizing the economy of both states,” it added.

It also lamented that the state governments of Assam and Nagaland have not been able to solve the border issue till date and called upon the organisations to “exert pressure on our respective state governments to solve the problem at the earliest.”

“At the same time, let us work towards building people to people relations between us as good neighbours and improve our business, trade and economic ties so that it will be of mutual benefit. Lifting the economic blockade is the way forward,” the MCCI stated, adding that the status of trade and commerce relations between the neighbours would be a key factor in determining a solution to the long drawn border problem.
