Nagaland: More bad weather forecasted

Dimapur, September 15 (MExN): The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has issued a three-day weather update warning of more adverse conditions from September 16 to 18.According to the NSDMA, the State will experience thunderstorm and lightning with light to intermittent moderate rain at most places till September 18. It stated that “Shamator and Tuensang will however witness heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm and lightning on the 16th of September.”

The authority cautioned that due to the risk of high precipitation in the hill sector, lowland and foothill districts including Dimapur, Niuland, Chümoukedima, Bhandari, Baghty, Tizit and Tuli are vulnerable to waterlogging and flash floods. It urged residents in low-lying areas to implement precautionary measures. These include keeping valuable documents and items in safe lockers, evacuating low-lying areas if advised, avoiding food that may have come in contact with flood water, avoiding entering flood waters or driving through flooded areas, disconnecting appliances off ground level, boiling or chlorinating water before drinking, and staying alert to open drain holes or flood channels.
