Condolences poured in from fans and colleagues on June 14 after news of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death was announced.


The 34 year old actor was found hanging at his Mumbai home on Sunday morning by his domestic help, IANS reported.


In Nagaland, the actor is fondly remembered not only for his on-screen presence, but also for his generous donation when the state was hit with severe monsoon rains in 2018. He came to Nagaland and personally handed over a cheque of Rs 1.25 crore towards the CM Relief Fund on September 4, 2018.


“In response to your benevolent gesture of donating Rs 1,25,00,000 towards the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, I join the people of Nagaland in expressing our deepest gratitude to you for your generosity.


“Your sincere concern for the people of Nagaland has pleasantly surprised us and we pray that Almighty God will bless you abundantly in all your endeavors,” Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio had written to Sushant Singh Rajput then. The actor had also made several appeals on social media to help Nagaland during the flood.


Rio on Sunday expressed sadness over Sushant Singh Rajput’s demise. 


“Shocked & saddened to hear about the untimely demise of Sushant Singh Rajput. He personally handed over a cheque to me when Nagaland was affected by floods & landslides in 2018,” Rio condoled on Twitter.


“His love & generous contribution to the people of Nagaland will always be remembered. May his soul RIP,” he added.


Along with the CM, several others mourned the actor’s death in Nagaland. “Sad to hear the shocking news of #SushantSinghRajput’s demise. Fantastic actor& a kind soul, a friend of Nagaland. He visited us during natural calamities&generously contributed. RIP & ThankYou for the fun&joy u gave us,” Abu Metha tweeted.


The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) tweeted, “We are deeply shocked & saddened to hear about the untimely demise of the young & talented actor, Sushant Singh Rajput. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family & friends in this time of grief.”


MLA & Advisor, IT, Science and Technology, NRE, Nagaland, Mmhonlumo Kikon also posted a message for the late actor. “RIP! Such a good actor and a very good human being!” he tweeted.


Fans also posted condolences on social media platforms, remembering him for his kindness and philanthropy. “Actor Sushant Singh Rajput is no more. Always remember him for giving one crore to the CM relief fund last year during the floods in parts of Nagaland when the national media was too busy focusing everywhere else.  RIP, kind man. Hope you found peace,” @theunrealbenz tweeted.


“Depression is a dangerous medical illness, and it is important for the whole world, especially India to accept it, not stigmatize it! You’ll be missed forever, hero! #SushantSinghRajput,” @mhonbe28Mufc said on Twitter.


Rajput hailed from Bihar and was educated in Patna and New Delhi, before shifting to Mumbai.


Sushant became a household name with his hit television series ‘Pavitra Rishta.’ He forayed into films with the critically acclaimed ‘Kai Po Che!’ which was based on Chetan Bhagat’s bestselling book ‘The Three Mistakes of My Life.’


He had also played the role of cricketer MS Dhoni in the biopic- ‘M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story.’


The popular actor was recently seen in the film ‘Chhichhore’ and his last appearance was in the Netflix film ‘Drive.’
