Nagaland MP bye-election on May 28

DIMAPUR, APRIL 26 (MExN): The Election Commission of India today announced that bye-elections to the sole Lok Sabha seat in the state of Nagaland will be held on May 28.  

It may be noted that present Nagaland State Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio, had resigned as MP to the Lok Sabha after he was elected unopposed from the Northern Angami II A/C during the recently held state assembly polls.  

A notification from the Nagaland Chief Electoral Officer informed that as per an ECI notice, the date of issue of Gazette Notification is May 3. The last date of nomination has been set on May 10, followed by scrutiny of candidates on May 11. The last date for withdrawal of nomination has been set for May 14.  

Counting for the polls will be done on May 31, with the election process to be completed by June 2.  

Consequent on the announcement of bye-election to the 1-Nagaland Parliamentary Constituency, the Model Code of Conduct comes into force with immediate effect and will be in force till the completion of the Bye-Election.  

The ECI simultaneously made the announcement for polls to two parliamentary constituencies in Maharashtra and one in Uttar Pradesh to be held on the same date.  

The Nagaland CEO has meanwhile informed that he will be addressing a press conference at the Dzukou Hall, Hotel Japfu, PR Hill, Kohima at 1:00 PM on April 27.
