
KOHIMA, MAY 19 (MExN): Nagaland Member of Parliament (MP) to the Lok Sabha, KG Kenye intervened to help stranded North East people in Chennai amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
After a video circulated on social media depicting stranded NE people having an altercation with Chennai City Police to find way to return to their respective home towns, the Nagaland MP directed his PRO, Dr Naresh Ram who is currently stationed in Chennai to probe in to the issue.
A press release from the MP’s office informed that the PRO found out the spot, where the incident took place. He coordinated with the DCP of Chennai Police and found out that around 64 people from the North East are being help up at Pallikaranai, Chennai.
Out of the 64, 63 people are from Assam and one woman is from Peren District of Nagaland. Dr Ram interacted with all the 64 people and assured them all necessary assistance. He further informed the Resident Commissioner of Assam Anand.
Meanwhile, it was informed that the stranded Naga woman was also situated in a private accommodation.
The Nagaland MP meanwhile appreciated the Police officers in Chennai—Prabhaker, IPS; Pakalavan, IPS; and Mankar, IPS. He also acknowledged the Government of Tamil Nadu for the cooperation and support.
