Nagaland MRV Campaign: Kiphire achieves 100% coverage

Kiphire, October 17 (MExN): Despite tremendous public apprehension, the ongoing MRVC in Kiphire district is going well up till today, Dr K Pewezo Khalo DPO (UIP & RCH) Kiphire reported in a press statement. In spite of the difficult terrain and poor accessibility, medical staffs could reach out to those villages by walking 5-6 hours and vaccinate the children with 100% coverage achievement.

He cited that vaccine hesitancy, traditional beliefs based on myths, parents’ doubts towards MR vaccine was outweighed by approaching them with proper information on vaccines and everyday’s coverage report is escalating higher. However, he said that even the remotest border village with Myanmar country like Mimi, Khongsa, Old Thongsonye, Thrungtsuvong, Thanamir, Hakumiti were already covered with quality immunization service.

“We encountered few challenges during this MRVC activity - vaccine hesitancy is a growing challenge, development and implementation of strategies for hard-to-reach areas, strengthening of vaccine delivery, road and transportation, and telecommunication demand special attention,” Dr Khalo mentioned.

He added that till date, not even a single case of serious adverse event following immunization (AEFI) is reported.
