KOHIMA (MExN): To keep pace with other technologically advanced States of the country, the Nagaland government is seriously considering setting up of an Indian Institute of Technology.

The minister for Information and Technical Education Imkong L. Imchen, while speaking at the inaugural function of the newly constructed Polytechnic Girls’ Hostel at Kohima, said that along with the chief minister of the state he may meet the concerned Union Minister soon to submit the proposal.

Presently, Nagaland has only two polytechnics, one at Kohima for women and another at Atoizu which offers diploma degree in various engineering course.

Imkong expressed optimism that the Union Ministry for Technical Education would not refuse their proposal, but will approve for the establishment of at least one IT institute in Nagaland.

However, the Minister regretted that the Polytechnic at Atoizu has not been utilized up to the set purpose. Imkong said that the primary technical institute is already marred by poor academic performance, so also it has been deserted because of the prevailing situation.

Minister Imkong recalled how the project directors and the officials of the department struggled to bring the institution to Nagaland.

He urged upon the students to make use of the institute and take Nagaland to technical map of the country. The newly constructed Girls’ hostel has about 80 students.
