Nagaland: NBSE informs on Class VII and IX board exams

Kohima, November 23 (MExN): Following the announcement by the Department of School Education (DoSE) Nagaland to conduct end term assessment for Classes I to VII and board exams for Class VIII and IX during the period from December 2 to 22, the NBSE has came out with a separate notification for the exams on November 23.

The Class VIII and Class IX Final Examinations assessment will be conducted by the schools through online or offline mode from December 2 to 22, stated the Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) in the notification from its Chairman Asano Sekhose.

While NBSE will not be issuing any routine, the assessment examination must be conducted with the questions given by the Board, it said.

The examinations should be conducted in the same mode or pattern in which the midterm/2nd term examination was conducted this year, it added.

“Schools shall NOT conduct the examination in one go. It should be conducted in batches through online or offline mode,” NBSE said, further directing the schools to “make all efforts to reach out to their students and take all possible measures to assess the students.”

The NBSE also informed that Board shall provide 2 (two) sets of question papers of all the subjects and the schools can use the same to assess the students.

“The technicalities of the examination i.e. selecting the test items/questions/marks/ days of examination and duration of assessment or examination” are left to the discretion of the schools, it said.

For government schools, password protected PDF files of the Class VIII & Class IX question papers will be uploaded in the schools domain of nbsenl.edu.in portal and the schools are to register themselves to download the question papers.

“Thereafter, password may be obtained from the Controller of Examinations and Deputy Controller of Examinations. The phone numbers are 9436005351 9436001270, 9862122300,” the NBSE said.

For Class VIII, private schools can prepare their own questions or test items based on the design of the question papers as given in assessment guidelines for Class VIII 2019 or instructions issued by the Board for assessing the students.

The NBSE further informed that no student should be made to come to the school to appear the examination. In case the students are to come to school for collection of question paper or assignments and submission, it should be done with the written consent of the parent and observing the SOPs, it said.

The schools are also directed to make necessary arrangements to assess the students either by sending photocopy of the question paper assignments and then collecting back the answer script or any other option which the school thinks fit for those students without access to digital devices to appear the examination online.

Strict precautions should be maintained during such exercise, it added.

The NBSE further advised schools to tell the students that they should send their answers honestly whether through online or offline mode during the final examinations.

“Provision for retest and remedial measures for Class VIII as per RTE Act shall be followed by all the schools,” it said.

The results shall be prepared as per the Board's criteria along with internal assessment marks of the subjects and the same should be mailed with January 22 -  at nbseclass8@gmail.com for Class 8 and nbseclass9@gmail.com.

Schools who have finished the examinations and are ready with the results can also submit it to the Board at the respective mail ID, the NBSE said.

Schools are also asked to send the question papers or test items of subjects to the Board within January 22, 2021. “For this year, sample answers scripts need NOT be sent.”

In a one-time relaxation, the schools can also declare the results if “they are satisfied that the results have been prepared as per criteria, without getting the approval of the Board.”

“However, the schools will be held responsible for any mistakes committed in the results submitted by them. Submission of additional results and corrections of results will NOT be entertained by the Board,” it added.

Further, the NBSE reminded all schools that they should not resume the conduct of regular classes in 2021 till the Government notifies the opening of schools as per DoSE’s November 23 notification.
