ILP becoming a tool of harassment, says NPCC 

Dimapur, March 8 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) today said that the non indigenous inhabitants who have settled in Dimapur prior to given cut-off date should not be harassed or deprived of their rights as 'genuine citizens' because of random implementation of ILP (Inner Line Permit). In a press statement, the NPCC asserted that the state government must ensure proper mechanisms be put in place to streamline the entire process of issuing ILP to different categories of applicants. “The law enforcing agencies must also be sensitized on ILP or else there are reports that ILP checking is becoming a tool of harassment for 'non indigenous people' irrespective of their status as genuine citizens, temporary residents or visitors which will have negative impact on the whole ILP exercise,” the statement added.

 

One arrested with IMFL

Dimapur, March 8 (MExN): The District Excise Dimapur manning Chümoukedima Excise check gate intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number MN 06T 0431 and recovered 518 cases of various brands of Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL)concealed inside layers of perishable and other commercial goods. Superintendent of Excise and Prohibition Dimapur, T Arilong Longkumer informed that, in this connection, one Thausinlung Kamei s/o Houtoulung Kamei, R/o Tamenglong, Manipur was arrested for illegally trafficking the contraband. Accordingly, the accused was booked under relevant sections of the NLTP Act 1989. Upon further inquiry, the accused disclosed that the consignment was loaded at 9th Mile area in Guwahati and was meant for sale at Imphal, Manipur, the SP said in the press release.

 

PAC’s fate discussed   

Dimapur, March 8 (MExN): The Public Action Committee (PAC) in its meeting on March 5 had a threadbare discussion on the existence of PAC. In view of the ground realities confronting the citizens, all the tribal hohos, non-tribal communities and the apex organizations shared their views on the need for the existence of PAC for the welfare of all the citizens of Dimapur in particular and Nagaland in general. A press release from Media Cell, PAC said, in this regard, “all the members present unanimously decided to let PAC team continue for the cause and welfare of the people,” said the release.

 

TR Zeliang offers condolence 

Kohima, March 8 (MExN): Leader of Opposition, TR Zeliang has expressed pain over the demise of S Chubatoshi Pongener, younger brother of Apong Pongerner, NPF Working President, who passed away in New Delhi on March 7. “Chubatoshi was a man of inspiration to my family. He was as a good neighbor who was cheerful and filled with joy in everything he did. He was a man who was ever ready to help selflessly in whatever capacity he could,” read a condolence message from Zeliang. Conveying condolences to the bereaved family, Zelaing along with his family prayed that God grant them strength and peace at this time of grief and for the departed soul to rest in peace.

 

CM condoles demise of Penchilo Ezung

Dimapur, March 8 (MExN): Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio expressed sadness at the demise of Penchilo Ezung, wife of former MLA SS Ezung and mother in law of retired Secretary to the Government of Nagaland Y Mhonbemo Humtsoe. A condolence from the Chief Minister stated that Penchilo Ezung who was born on December 4, 1946, served as a decicated primary school teacher for about 37 years. “During this time she had given invaluable service to the Government and the people by moulding many students, who later became successful and prominent personalities of Nagaland in various walks of life,” the message read. The Chief Minister on behalf of the Government of Nagaland, and on behalf of his family, conveyed heartfelt condolences to SS Ezung and members of the bereaved family. May the departed soul rest in peace, he added.
