Training on agri and allied at Kikruma village Phek, September 25 (MExN): A one day district level training programme on agri and allied was organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra-Phek at Kikruma village sponsored by Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Phek. Altogether 51 farmers participated in the training. Dr Esther Longkumer, ACTO (Soil Sc.), delivered lecture on vermicomposting and its entrepreneurial opportunities. Dr Rinku Bharali ACTO (Horticulture) presented his deliberation on Kiwi fruit production technology. He emphasized on commercial cultivation, efficient marketing and packaging. Subject Matter Specialist Liza Barua Bharali delivered a lecture on Integrated Pest Management technology for insect pest management through cultural, physical and biological approach. Dr Debojyoti Borkotoky, SMS (Animal Sc.) enlightened the farmers on principles and ideology of livestock based SHG formation with emphasis on piggery. Farm Manager KVK-Phek, Keniseto Chucha described briefly on low cost water harvesting system and micro irrigation. The participating farmers had a detail interaction with the resource persons regarding various aspects of crop and livestock production.   ATMA Phomching hold demo Dimapur, September 25 (mexn): ATMA, Phomching block, Mon District conducted demonstration and training programme at Sheanghah Tangten and Yuching Village on September 21 and 23 respectively. Fifteen farmers from each villages attended the programme. During the programme, Resource person Moikam ATM Mon Block gave demonstration on usage of bio fertilizers on cabbage, radish and cauliflower. The resource person also explained the importance of using bio fertilizers in the crops which would benefit the farmers by increasing the productivity. Training on oyster mushroom cultivation was also imparted to the farmers by Kanato ATM Phomching Block. He also explained how mushroom cultivation can be undertaken by the SHGs as source of livelihood as well as consumption. After the programme the farmers were handed out some mushroom spawns, bio fertilizers and seeds, informed an ATMA press note.   Tree farming union formed in Peren Dimapur, September 25 (MExN): The Peren District Tree Farming Union (PDTFU) was formally established at a meeting held at Town Hall, Peren Town on S eptember 17.  The main objectives of PDTFU is to emphasised on systematic operation of timbers/jhum cultivations and also to encourages every Village council's plant more trees in the area effected by such activities in order to protect our fast changing ecological Environment, a PDTFU press note informed. During the meeting, the house elected the Chairman Peren Village Mireulung Sephe as President and Zierangbe Ikie as Secretary for a period of five years, it added. Meanwhile, the Hill Area Chairman Union Peren(HACUP) elected its new team of office bearers for a term of five years on September 17 with Akwet as Chairman, Heinambe as Secretary and Ariang as Treasurer.     KMC ward association hails Kohima selection   Dimapur, September 25 (MExN): The Association of Kohima Municipal Wards Panchayat (AKMWP) has welcomed the selection of Kohima in the phase implementation of Smart City project. The state capital Kohima was among the 27 cities selected in the third phase of the competition announced by Union Urban Developmemt Minister, Venkaiah Naidu September 20. In a press note, AKMWP president Neibulie Kiewhuo and General Secretary Thejao Sekhose also lauded the effort of the Chief Minister T.R. Zeliang and the Administrator of KMC for their “tireless efforts” towards Kohima’s selection. Assuring it fullest support the state government and its implementing agencies, the association further requested all the wards and sector Panchayats of Kohima city to “come forward in ushering easy passage for the implementation of the development of the Smart City projects.”   GREF organises ‘Run for Fitness’ at Sechu, Zubza   Kohima, September 25 (MExN): With an aim to promote healthy living and create awareness on importance of workout for fitness amongst its personnel, 89 Road Construction Coy (GREF) organized a ‘Run for Fitness’, a running event, at Sechu, Zubza on September 25. Sachin Kumar, Executive Engineer (Civil), Officer Commanding, 89 RCC (GREF) flagged off the event at RCC Headquarter. A press release from the unit informed that around 100 personnel in three different age groups participated in the event. Women and children of the unit also took part.  The personnel who had finished first, second, and third were given rewards by OC 89 RCC (GREF) to boost their morale, the release added. In his speech, the Officer Commanding, 89 RCC emphasized on the importance of healthy living and fitness, it said.  The press release further noted that the inhabitants of the village also felt motivated and excited by the run. “The public also realized the importance of regular running for improving fitness and preventing ailment,” it added.   DC Phek informs gun licence holders   Dimapur, September 25 (MExN): The Deputy Commissioner of Phek Muroho Chotso has informed all arms licence holders under Phek district to bring their respective licences for digitalisation before March 31, 2017. The Government of India has recently extended the exercise for the National Digitilisation of Arms Licence for Unique ID (UID) number till March 31, 2017. All licence holders after without the UID after March 31 will be declared “cancelled” and the weapon against such cancelled licences will be treated as “illegal weapons,” the DC stated in a press notification. “The possession of such illegal weapon shall be liable to be punishable under India’s Arms Act,” it said.  The DC also urged the public of Phek to comply with the notice in order to avoid “complication and legal liability against them.”
