A Guwahati-bound transport pick-up was stolen after it was waylaid in Dimapur. The Mahindra pick-up was returning to Guwahati after transporting an ATM to Imphal, when it was waylaid at the Burma Camp junction around midnight on April 3.
According to the FIR lodged by the owner of the missing vehicle (AS 01EC 2542), two autorickshaws intercepted the pick-up. Four masked men alighted from the autorickshaws and held up the driver and his assistant at gun point. The pick-up was commandeered to a spot at Super Market, where the driver and the assistant were blind-folded and bound. They were then taken to another location and led off. The FIR stated that the driver and his assistant managed to free themselves and reached East Police Station at around 3:00 am. It later emerged that the hijackers had dumped the duo somewhere at Full Nagarjan. Six people were suspected to be involved in the hijacking.
