JCPI against appointment of non-Nagas as GBs

Dimapur, August 17 (MExN): The Joint Committee for Prevention of Illegal Immigrants (JCPI) on Tuesday reiterated that “the appointment of non-Naga as Gaon Bura (GB) will be non negotiable.” The Committee, in a press release issued by its media cell, stated that it was with the same intent that the recommendation was submitted to the Banuo Commission on RIIN. As part of the special provision in Article 371(A), for the Naga customary law and procedure, the GB being the custodian of customary law should be aboriginal Nagas from the state of Nagaland, the JCPI asserted.

Governor extends Hunapongpi greetings

Kohima, August 17 (MExN): Nagaland Governor RN Ravi on Tuesday extended warm Hunapongpi greetings to the Sangtam community and people of Nagaland. “The celebration of Hunapongpi is to display affection and care for one another. Children are the prominent participants in this festival whereby they learn to preserve the beautiful culture displayed in the form of folk songs, dances and traditional sports,” the Governor stated in his message. Stating that the festival provides an opportunity to understand and appreciate the beauty of the underlying ancient philosophies of the community, Ravi called on the people to celebrate the beautiful festival following COVID appropriate behaviors. On this auspicious occasion I wish you all happiness, good health and prosperity, he added. 

NSCN (R) greets

Dimapur, August 17 (MExN): The NSCN (R) on Tuesday conveyed 'Hunapongpi' greetings to the Sangtam community. “Hunapongpi festival showcases the vibrant culture of the Sangtam Community and also reflects harmony and peaceful coexistence,” it stated in a press release issued through its MIP. The NSCN (R) conveyed best wishes to the Sangtam brothers and sisters “to continue to dwell in prosperity, wealth and good health, and to foster unity and goodwill among Naga family so as to bring forth the essence of peace and harmony.”
