Workshop on natural farming and input distribution held at Yesholutomi

Lumami, May 18 (MExN): The Nagaland University KVK, Lumami, conducted a workshop on 'Natural farming and input distribution' at Yesholutomi Village on May 15.

According to a press release from the KVK, Lumami, Edenly Chishi CTO (Horticulture) chaired the introductory session.

She also presented the techniques of selecting suitable varieties and cropping sequences. She emphasized on year round production of crops by adopting different cropping system and also elucidated on the importance of integrated farming system.

Naropongla T.O (Farm), NU, KVK briefed the participants about the workshop on natural farming.

In the technical session, Dr. Visakho Shunyu, CTO (Agronomy), NU, KVK, delivered a talk on the importance of Natural farming and seed production. He stated that natural farming improves soil fertility, improves environmental health as well as helps in the reduction of green house gas emissions, promises the enhancement of farmer’s income. Adequate care should be given to crop from where seeds are to be produced for the next sowing season and only seeds of assured quality can be expected to give good yield, he shared. 

Narola Anichari, T.O (Home Science), NU, KVK, presented on Nutritional Security through fruits and vegetables. She explained the importance of including fruits and vegetables in one’s daily diet and its health benefits.  

Naropongla, T.O (Farm), NU, KVK, presented method demonstration on the preparation of different natural farming products such as Neemastra, Chanajeevamrut, Beejamrit and Jeevamrut.

Technical program was followed by farmers scientist interaction and inputs distribution, such as vegetable seeds, knapsack sprayer, neemastra, Ghana jeevamrit, beejamrut etc. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Kitoho Chishi (G.B.) Yesholutomi village. Altogether, 85 farmers from Yesholutomi and Imlomi village, attended the programme.
