Areca nuts worth 1.77 cr seized in Dimapur
Dimapur, September 3 (MExN): Security forces reported the seizure of areca nuts in Oriental Colony, Dimapur on September 2.
According to an official statement from the HQ IGAR (N), based on specific information about consignment of areca nuts, security forces along with police representative launched an operation in general area Oriental Colony and apprehended one person identified as Jai Narayan (40).
60960 kgs of areca nuts amounting to approximately Rs 1.77 Crore was seized, the statement informed.
The apprehended individual and seized areca nuts were handed over to Superintendent of Anti Smuggling Customs Prevention Division, Dimapur, it added.
OSTD condemns kidnapping
Dimapur, September 2 (MExN): The Ongpangkong Senso Telongjem (OSTD) condemned the kidnapping of an employee of Symbios Creation Pvt Ltd on August 26. While appealing to every right thinking person to condemn such an act, the Union also lauded the swift action of the law enforcing agency. It declared full support to the state’s investigative agency to “bring the case to a logical conclusion as per the law of the land.”
Meeting for examination of C&AG Report on Sept 10
Kohima, September 3 (MExN): The Chairman of Committee on Public Undertakings, Nagaland Legislative Assembly, Mhathung Yanthan, has convened a meeting of the Committee for Oral Evidence with the departmental representatives on September 10 at 11:00 am in the Committee Room of the Assembly Secretariat. The meeting is on the examination of the C&AG Report of India for the period 2016-2017 for NIRMSC, NHL, NIDC and NHHDC under the Department of Industries & Commerce and NSMDC under the Department of Geology and Mining, as per a release from Commissioner & Secretary, NLA on Thursday. All members of the Committee have been requested to attend the meeting on the date and time as mentioned. The AHOD, HOD and Managing Directors of the respective departments/corporations have also been requested to attend the meeting with all required supporting documents for tendering evidence before the Committee, the release added.
NTUCT, CCCPO laud 5 AR, seek thorough investigation
Dimapur, September 3 (MExN): The Naga Tribal Union Chümoukedima Town (NTUCT) extended appreciation the 5th Assam Rifles (5 AR) for busting the illegal spurious liquor plant in Dimapur on September 2.
NTUCT President Lhousito Khro and General Secretary Er Longshi Kikon in a press release appreciated the “bold and pragmatic initiative” of the AR in curbing anti social elements. The NTUCT also condemned the ‘illegal act’ and appealed to the government and concerned investigating agencies to immediately book the kingpins or culprits involved. It also called for “highest stringent punishment” to be awarded to the guilty.
Meanwhile, the Chümoukedima Circle, Chakhroma Public Organisation (CCCPO) in a separate statement expressed shock to learn about the operation of the illegal bottling unit of spurious liquor within its jurisdiction.
"At a time when the society is trying to control illegal supply and sale contraband, such activity of manufacturing and supplying spurious liquor from our jurisdiction, cannot be condoned or over looked in any manner,” the statement from the CCCPO President Neikhriehu Kense and General Secretary Khriebulie Peseyie read. The CCCPO also appreciated the 5 AR, Kashiram Basti and Dimapur Police for busting the unit and arresting the culprits involved.
It stated the “likelihood that more people, particularly influential people could also be involved,” and urged the authorities to thoroughly investigate the matter till all the people involved are booked and given appropriate punishments as per the provision of law.
