Dimapur Press Club elects new office bearers

Dimapur, September 26 (MExN): The Dimapur Press Club (DPC) during its general meeting cum election of new office bearers held on Saturday at Press Point, Supermarket has elected the following for 2020-2022 tenure: President: K Filip Sumi, Vice President: Temjenrenba, General Secretary: P Among Aier, Joint Secretary: Prasanjit Dutta, Info & Publicity Secretary: Akangjungla, Sports Secretary: Pfushou, Finance Secretary: Imrong Jamir, Treasurer: Dilip Sharma, Executive Members: Paudi Renta, Moa Longkumer and Imkong Walling. 

DMC Leasees condemn Sept 22 killing

Dimapur, September 26 (MExN): The DMC Leasees have condemned the killing of truck driver Jiten Gogoi on September 22 at Dimapur and expressed solidarity with all the aggrieved Truck Drivers Union and Truck Owners Association. In a press release on Saturday, the leasees appealed law enforcing agencies to expedite the investigation and arrest those involved in the commission of such ‘heinous and ghastly crime.’ It further requested the aggrieved organizations “not to directly put the blame of the death of Jiten Gogoi upon the DMC Leasees without any conclusive facts and evidence,” but let the law take its own course. We believe in the capacities and technical abilities of Dimapur Police and hope that they will deliver justice and fulfill the trust and confidence of the citizens of Dimapur upon them, the press release stated. 

AKM supports SSA and RMSA teachers

Mokokchung, September 26 (MExN): The Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (AKM) has expressed concern on the state government’s failure to respond to the plea of SSA and RMSA teachers of 2010 and 2013 batches. In a press release on Saturday, the AKM stated that several organizations and student bodies have raised concerns on the issue while some have also issued ultimatums to the School Education Department. “However, the state government seems to be turning a deaf ear to the plea of teachers and also the various organizations,” the release stated. The AKM extended its support to the SSA and RMSA teachers stating that it would continue to stand with the demands of the teachers.

JSS appeals students, teachers

Dimapur, September 26 (MExN): The Janajati Shikhsha Samiti, Dimapur has appealed students, teachers and all citizens of Nagaland to participate in the online competitions and discussions on the New Education Policy organized by Vidya Bharti at www.mynep.in. In a press release on Saturday, the JSS informed that the competitions are open to all citizens without any age limits; along with prizes starting from Rs 3,000 to Rs 5,000 as well as certificates that can be printed out.  Stating that the Nagaland Education Department has also notified and disseminated information, it requested citizens to visit the website and take part in the activities. 

Condolences pour in for Toniho Achumi

Dimapur, September 26 (MExN):  Condolences have poured in for Toniho Achumi, former Assistant General Secretary of Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) on Saturday. In a condolence message from the DNSU Media Cell, the union remembered Achumi as a dynamic and sincere leader who had dedicated his life for the society. “He will always be remembered for his humble nature and selfless contribution.  His sudden demise is a great loss for the family of Dimapur Naga Students’ Union,” the message read.  The union conveyed condolences to the bereaved family members and prayed that the departed soul rest in peace.  In a separate message, the Rongmei Students’ Union Dimapur mourned the ‘soft spoken, kind hearted and a humble person,’ stating that his service towards the student community will always be remembered.

“The cordial relation he built with RSUD during his service in DNSU will always be remembered and cherished. The Union conveys its heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family members especially to his wife and toddler,” the condolence message stated. Meanwhile, former DNSU General Secretary Kambuiga Rongmei also issued a message, stating that Achumi’s demise has created a big vacuum that will be difficult to fill up.  “In this time of sorrow and pain, I conveyed my deepest condolences to the bereaved family and prayed that they be granted solace and strength to bear the irreparable loss,” Rongmei said in his message. 

Forum of Landowners & Pattadars informs

Dimapur, September 26 (MExN): The Forum of Landowners and Pattadars whose lands are being occupied by the Army in Dimapur town have been informed to clear their dues before the general meeting. This was informed in a press release from the Forum’s General Secretary K Thong on Saturday. Members have been requested to contact 7005053101 (for Dimapur) and 8974452812 (for Kohima).

PAC meeting with Dimapur CSOs

Dimapur, September 26 (MExN): The Public Action Committee (PAC) Dimapur held its meeting with the tribal hoho leaders, frontal organizations and transport agencies at WCH office on September 26. Clarifying on its existence, the PAC claimed that “on March 5 earlier this year, the tribal hohos and frontal organizations decided to let PAC continue although NCD had dissolved it.” It said that the NCD Office Secretary trying to discourage and create confusion in the PAC activities is “uncalled for.” PAC also resolved to support the demands that were made to the State Government for “removal of all illegal collection of money in all the gates,” by the transporters.

On the killing of Jiten Gogoi, a truck driver on September 22 in Dimapur, the PAC served an ultimatum to the District administration to nab the culprit within 10 days and award befitting punishment as per the law of the land. It demanded for the investigation report to be made public, failing which, “the PAC shall decide its own course of action,” it added. While reminding the State government on the enactment of the Criminal Control Act, the PAC informed that it has decided to give one more month’s time to the Government (till October 31, 2020). It also expressed shock and dismay at the Power project at Padumpukhuri, Dimapur which was reportedly stalled due demands made by Naga Political Groups and urged the Government to act immediately in the interest of the general public.
