
Committee of Privileges and Ethics meeting
DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 5 (MExN): Moatoshi Longkumer, MLA and Chairperson of the Committee of Privileges and Ethics have convened a meeting of the Committee on February 14 at 11 AM in the C Chongshen Committee Room of the Assembly Secretariat. In this connection, a press release issued by the Nagaland Legislative Assembly Secretariat Secretary-in-charge has requested the members of the Committee to make it convenient to attend the meeting.
DC Kohima informs on arms firing
KOHIMA, FEBRUARY 5 (MExN): Deputy Commissioner Kohima, Kumar Ramnikant, has informed to all the concerned villages and all the ward/colony Panchayat under Kohima Town that the 13th Assam Rifles will be conducting small arms firing at Firing Range Kohima Garrison. In this connection, all concerned have been informed not to enter, or take cattle for grazing near the Firing Area till February 28.
NNC/GDRN (NA) relieves Kiumukam from Presidentship
DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 5 (MExN): In a new development, the NNC/GDRN (NA) has reportedly relieved Kiumukam from the post of President and also terminated his membership from the organization. A statement released by the Secretary, MIP, NNC/GDRN (NA) read, “After threadbare deliberations and consultations with the regional authorities upon the anti-government activities committed by Kiumukam and running the government according to his personal whims and fancies, the NNC/GDRN (N-A) hereby relieve Kiumukam from the post of President and his membership stands terminated.”
Tenyimi Union convenes meeting
DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 5 (MExN): Tenyimi Union Dimapur, Chümoukedima, Niuland has convened a meeting at the union office to discuss the forthcoming Golden Jubilee celebration of the union formation. In this regard, all the unit president/representative and frontal organization, advisors and planning and organizing committee, finance committee, souvenir committee have been requested to attend the meeting positively. The meeting will begin from 10 am onwards, a press release issued by the media cell, Tenyimi Union informed.
DYLO condemns extortion by NSCN-K (Khango) group
DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 5 (MExN): The Dimapur Lotha Youth Organization (DLYO) has strongly condemned the alleged unlawful tax imposed on one of its members by a cadre of the NSCN-K (Khango) group. The incident occurred on February 4 at Purana Bazar, where an NSCN-K (Khango) cadre demanded a sum of Rs 25,000 from a local Naga entrepreneur.
In a statement, the DLYO expressed outrage, calling the act "shameful" and a direct affront to the struggles of Naga youth, who are already facing unemployment and striving to overcome these challenges through entrepreneurship. "It is disgraceful that such extortion continues to occur, despite the ongoing efforts of Naga youths to combat these injustices," the organization stated.
This incident is not the first of its kind, and DLYO has called for widespread opposition to such exploitation. "The fight against extortion and unlawful taxation is far from over," the organization emphasized, reaffirming its commitment to resist such oppressive acts.
The DLYO, meanwhile, commended the swift response of law enforcement agencies in apprehending those involved in the extortion, ensuring that justice is served. The organization expressed its continued dedication to the welfare and protection of its members and reiterated its pledge to work closely with law enforcement to maintain peace and order within the community.
NPGN-NNC terminates one from active membership
DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 5 (MExN): The National People’s Government of Nagaland, Naga National Council (NPGN-NNC) has terminated Kihoto Chophi from active membership and government to protect the sanctity and integrity of the government. A termination order issued by the NPGN-NNC President Shoba Lakhum stated that Kihoto Chophi is terminated from active for “his selfish motive and anti-party discipline,” which is a threat to the national movement. A separate statement from MIP, NPGN/NNC asserted that the organization under the collective leadership of Shoba Lakhum, President and Shitoho Chophy, Ato Kilonser is still intact with majority and is very much with the Working Committee, NNPGs under the Convener of N Kitovi Zhimomi. It also vouched full support till the final signing between the GoI and the Nagas.
