
DC Kohima issues traffic advisory
Kohima, February 9 (MExN): Deputy Commissioner Kohima, Kumar Ramnikant IAS has issued traffic advisory stating that in view of the ongoing maintenance and repairing work of bridge at Ch 38+140 of Kohima-Jessami Road under Package-II and for public safety, commuters/travellers have been advised to take alternate route either via Chetheba or Zuketsa-Kidima (Prayer Park) w.e.f February 8 to 16.
ENSA bereaved
Dimapur, February 9 (MExN): The Eastern Naga Students Association (ENSA) has expressed shock over the demise of James Winran at Myitkyina after a prolong illness on February 5. James Winran held from Ngaimong Village has served as the first Assistant General Secretary of ENSA from 2004 till 2006. He worked tirelessly and selflessly during his tenure for the upliftment of Eastern Naga students, ENSA stated while conveying condolences to the bereaved family members and prays for ‘his soul to rest in eternal peace.’
EVM and VVPATs demo centers in Mkg
Mokokchung, February 9 (MExN): Deputy Commissioner Mokokchung, Thsuvisie Phoji has informed that with the Lok Sabha Election 2024 drawing near, EVM and VVPATs Demonstration Centers have been established at various key locations across Mokokchung District. These centers have been set up to facilitate and ensure a smooth voting process for all eligible voters, stated a DIPR report. The Demonstration Centers are located as follows: The DC Office Mokokchung, Office of SDO (C), Changtongya, ADC Office Mangkolemba and ADC Office Tuli. These centers aim to provide necessary guideline and assistance to voters regarding the voting procedure, the usage of electronic voting machines (EVM), and any other related. It may be noted that the EVM demonstration will be functional during office hours.
FGN condoles demise of Maj Gen Paming
Dimapur, February 9 (MExN): On the demise of Maj Gen Paming, GOC Eastern Command, Naga Army of February 8 at his native village (Ningshit), FGN Kedahge Gen (Retd) Viyalie Metha in a press note has conveyed condolences to the bereaved family members and relatives. The press note stated that Maj Gen Paming joined Naga Army on June 30, 1976. He served the nation in various capacities as the Commander of 7th Brigade, Defence Commander, 2 i/c of Eastern Command, GOC and as GOC of the Eastern Command, Naga Army in 2023. He was a recipient of Long Service Certificate and a recipient of Military Cross. He gave his whole life for the Nation. “He was a true patriot. His untimely death was a great loss for the Nation, Naga Army as a whole and community. Yet his patriotic deeds and sacrificial services rendered to the nation shall always remain alive in the history of the Naga nation,” Metha stated while praying for departed soul to “eternally rest in peace.”
NPCC to field an INC candidate in Nagaland
Kohima, February 9 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) on Friday announced to field an INC candidate in Nagaland for the upcoming 2024 General Elections. This was resolved during a PCC Extended Executive Committee Meeting at Congress Bhavan, Kohima February 9. Senior Congress leaders including KL Chishi, former Chief Minister, K Therie, former NPCC President, S Supongmeren Jamir, President NPCC and Khreidi Theünuo, Working President NPCC, addressed the meet, stated a press release issued by Communications Department, NPCC. It stated that “crucial issues related to the upcoming 2024 General Elections were discussed during the meeting, concluding with the house unanimously resolving to field an INC candidate in Nagaland in furtherance of the Congress Party is committed fight against the BJP's rule of blatant corruption and communalism championed in proxy by the NDPP led opposition less government in the State.”
NLA Speaker convenes BAC meeting
Kohima, February 9 (MExN): Sharingain Longkumer, Speaker, Nagaland Legislative Assembly and Chairperson of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) has convened its meeting on February 20 at 12:30 pm in the Committee Room, Assembly Secretariat to finalise the Provisional Programme for the Fourth Session of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly scheduled to commence from February 26.
Two arrested with 8472 bottles of assorted liquor
Dimapur, February 9 (MExN): The Excise Mobile Squad personnel on excise and prohibition duty on NH-29 led by Assistant Inspector Renbeni, on a tip-off, intercepted a truck bearing No. ASO1 LC 0737 at Kukidolong, Chümoukedima around 2:30 am on February 9. Superintendent of Excise and Prohibition (MS), K Toshiho Yeptho in a press release said that upon searching the vehicle, a total of 8472 bottles of assorted liquor were found concealed under household items. “Preliminary investigation revealed that the above mentioned truck was on its way to Imphal, Manipur,” Yeptho added. “In this connection, two accused persons namely Seram Naoba Meitei and Hemon Tokbi were arrested and booked under relevant sections of the NLTP Act. The seized articles are deposited in the Excise Mobile Squad malkhana and further investigation of the case is on,” he added.
ZBCC Peren Father’s conference
Peren, February 9 (MExN): The Zeme Baptist Church Council (ZBCC), Peren Father’s (Mipei Kangbau) conference is scheduled for February 16 to 18, 2024 at Ngwalwa Baptist Church with “Man of God: Man of change” (Ephesians 4:22-24) as the conference theme. Rev Kieviyiekielie Linyu, Pastor Ebenezer Baptist Church, Kohima, Dr Rangro Herie, Secretary for Education and Sunday School, ZBCC, Rev Ramdeu Nsa, Coordinator, Mipei Kangbau, ZBCC and Iteibeule, Administrator, BHSS, Peren will be the resource persons. The event of the conference includes worship services, Seminar, reporting of ministry from local Church and recreational hours of penalty shoot and informal fellowship. All the Mipei Kangbau from different local churches have been informed and invited to be part of the conference.
