Gov greets Chakhesang community

KOHIMA, JANUARY 14 (MExN): Governor of Nagaland, La Ganesan has extended Sökrönye greetings to the Chakhesang community as they celebrate the festival. A press release from the Governor’s office said that Sökrönye is a harvest festival and “the essence of this beautiful festival is the sanctification and bringing forth blessing and unity amongst all the Community members.” May the spirit of Sökrönye bring warmth, happiness and harmony as we celebrate the rich traditions and cultural heritage of the Chakhesang tribe, the Governor stated. On this joyous occasion, I wish everyone good health, peace and prosperity, he added.

CCO extends Sökrönye greetings

DIMAPUR, JANUARY 14 (MExN): The Chakhesang Cultural Organisation (CCO) has extended Sökrönye greetings to the Chakhesang community and Naga society. A press release from the CCO said that “originally and initially, the Chokris had traditionally practiced Sokro, a ritualistic purification of young innocent boys and girls with the killing and eating of unblemished cock and hen respectively. This act of sanctification/purification is quite similar to Baptism.” Culture is the easiest emotional binding factor in a given society because culture itself is a largesse of God, it stated.  The CCO appealed to all citizens of the Chakhesang community and Nagaland to “purify our hearts, seek for prosperity, good fortunes and happiness in every home so as to give peace a chance in the blessed name of Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace.”

ENSSU elects new team

DIMAPUR, JANUARY 14 (MExN): Tonika Aye has been elected as new president of the Eastern Nagaland Sumi Students Union (ENSSU) for the tenure 2023-2025 . A reports from ENSSU media cell informed that the new ENSSU members include Ninoto Katty as Vice-president, Anaka S Chophi as General secretary, Vehepu Yeptho as Asst General secretary, Finance Secretary Gihuka V Chophi, Organizing Secretary Bokuto Achumi, Education Secretary Vipika Chishi, Cultural Secretary Vikapu I Sumi, Asst. Cultural Secretary Kihika Yeptho, Games & Sports Secretary Tonika Yeptho, Asst.Games & Sports Secretary Lilika Murru, Women Coordinator Kavitoli Chophi, Asst Women Coordinator Inaholi V Sumi, Information Secretary Tonoli H Yeptho, Assembly Speaker Ninoto Aye, Yevika Chishi as Deputy Speaker, and Hikivi Sumi as Assembly Secretary.

NIPF elects new office bearers

DIMAPUR, JANUARY 14 (MExN): The Nagaland Indigenous People’s Forum (NIPF) held a general meeting on January 13 at Tourist Lodge Dimapur. President Dr Temsuwati briefed the house on the activities of the Forum and how it has been functioning since its inception in the year 2017.  The meeting commenced with a prayer by Dr Lima. The meeting deliberated on various agendas on how to protect Indigenous people. The House unanimously elected President Dr T Lima Jamir; Vice Presidents H Sunep Phom, Kakheto K Sumi, and Keneilietuo Zumvu; General Secretary, Richard Haolai; Finance Secretary, Arila Sangtam; Publicity Secretary, Honikali Lohe; Cultural Secretary, Alise Sangtam; Asst. Gen Secretary, Kikheto; Executive Members Dr Senti Jamir, T Nyiekha and Philip Rengma (Adv); and Advisors Khehoto K Swu and Dr Temsuwati.

NSCN (IM) mourns

DIMAPUR, JANAURY 14 (MExN): The NSCN (IM) has expressed sadness at the passing of Vitoshe Achumi, Executive Member, Steering Committee, NSCN from UT (Union Territory) on January 14. A press release from the MIP also expressed condolences at the passing of Capt (Retd) M Khamkhui, Deputy Kilonser of Wung-Tangkhul region;  T Hengba Moses, Razou Peyu of Maram-Thangal Region, GPRN; Lieut Col (Retd) HT Mahesh Anal, Tatar of Khurmi Region, GPRN; and Hiksoul Marchang, Deputy Kilonser of Wung-Tangkhul Region, GPRN. “NSCN/GPRN is deeply indebted for the service rendered by them for the dear cause of the Naga political issue and for which they have given their best. Their sacrificial spirits and dedication for the Naga nation shall be recorded in the pages of Naga history,” it stated. The NSCN (IM) further extended condolences to the bereaved families. “We pray that the Almighty God grant them the strength and comfort to bear the loss. It is our wish and prayers that their souls rest in eternal peace,” it added.

Phekmi Collegiate Forum session on January 18

Kohima, January 14 (MExN): The Phekmi Collegiate Forum (PCF) will hold its 33rd general session under the theme “Embracing the future” on January 18 at Phek village. MLA Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu, Leader NPF Legislature Party will grace the session as the guest speaker. Chakhesang Public Organization (CPO) president Veziihii Keyho will exhort the gathering. The session will be chaired by PCF vice president Kho-o H. Keyho while PCF president Vekupa Venuh will deliver welcome address. PCF general secretary Veshe Chizo will present PCF activities for the current tenure. Vote of thanks will be proposed by PCF programme co-ordinator Khoshepa Vero. The new team of the PCF executive will also be announced during the session.
