Gov extends greetings on Naknyulum Festival

KOHIMA, JULY 30 (MExN): Nagaland Governor La Ganesan on Wednesday extended warm greetings to the Chang community and the people of Nagaland on the occasion of Naknyulum Festival. In his message, the Governor said Naknyulum, celebrated with deep cultural and spiritual significance, symbolises the triumph of light over darkness and embodies the spirit of unity, peace, and prosperity. He said the festival is a time to honour age-old traditions, strengthen community bonds, and seek blessings for a harmonious future. “As we come together to celebrate this vibrant festival, may it inspire us to preserve our rich heritage and promote mutual respect among all communities,” he said. The Governor wished everyone a joyful and meaningful Naknyulum celebration.

 

NAWO condemns attempted rape and murder, to hold protest

KOHIMA, JULY 30 (MExN): The Northern Angami Women Organisation (NAWO) has strongly condemned the alleged attempted rape and attempted murder of a mother of four children by one Khrietuolie Kense (19) of Tsiemekhuma Basa Village under Botsa subdivision. In a press release, NAWO described the incident as a grave violation of women's rights and security, and called for the severest punishment under the law. The organisation stated that such individuals pose a threat to civilised society and must be held accountable through due legal process. In response, NAWO announced a peaceful protest and the submission of a memorandum to the District Administration, Kohima, to demand swift and appropriate action against the accused. The protest is scheduled for August 2 at 10:00 AM, at Razhü Point, Kohima. NAWO has appealed to concerned citizens to join the demonstration in solidarity and support the call for justice.

 

Body of suspected homeless man recovered in Dimapur

DIMAPUR, JULY 30 (MExN): The body of an unidentified non-local male, believed to be around 35–40 years of age, was found at Rail Bazaar in Dimapur on July 29 evening. According to Dimapur Sub-Urban Police Station, verbal information was received around 5:55 pm regarding a dead body lying unattended in the area. A police team rushed to the spot and found the deceased, who appeared to be homeless. An inquest was conducted, but no foul play was suspected. Based on witness accounts and preliminary observation, police suspect the man may have died due to starvation. The deceased, identified as Marujal, son of Amel Haque, was found wearing a black half pant. The body has been shifted to the morgue at the District Hospital for post-mortem and identification after completion of legal formalities. Relatives, friends, or acquaintances of the deceased are requested to contact the Officer-in-Charge, Sub-Urban Police Station, Dimapur, at Mobile No. 7085055026.

 

NNC/FGN to celebrate 79th I-Day at Thenyizumi Village

DIMAPUR, JULY 30 (MExN): The Naga National Council (NNC) and the Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN) will celebrate the ‘79th Nagaland Independence Day’ on August 15, 2025, from 11:00 AM, with Thenyizumi Village under the Chakhesang Region as the host. In this connection, Rali Wali, Kilonser of the FGN, has invited all to participate in the occasion. In a press release received here, it was further informed that all Regional Midan Peyus of the FGN are to celebrate the historic day in their respective regions and sub-regions.
