KMC on rampant disposal of garbage in Kohima

KOHIMA, MAY 3 (MExN): The Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) has stated that there is rampant disposal of garbage all over the municipality, particularly with the onset of monsoon. “Irresponsible dumping of waste in drains has already caused much inconvenience after the first few rains especially in areas below the main roads,” stated KMC in a press release. It has also been observed that those carrying various constructions often block the drain with debris, which is not cleared even after completion of work, it stated.
With the onset of monsoon, if all these irresponsible actions continue, the situation will only become worse with more blocked drains, which will ultimately affect the condition of the roads, it cautioned.
In continuation previous circulars/notices stated, the KMC has reiterated that disposal of waste in drains, vacant plots, or anywhere other than designated commercial collection points, blocking of drain and littering during construction activities are not only illegal but also totally unbecoming. Towards this, KMC administrator T Lanusenla Longkumer has once again appealed all citizens to refrain from such irresponsible behaviour and to contribute towards a cleaner and healthier Kohima.
