‘Grave Injustice’: ENWO on SC’s decision to close Oting massacre case

Longleng, September 26 (MExN): The Eastern Nagaland Women Organisation (ENWO) has expressed condemnation of the Supreme Court's decision on September 17 to close the criminal proceedings against the 30 Indian Army personnel involved in the Oting massacre that took place on December 4, 2021.
In a press release, the ENWO described the court's decision as a "grave injustice" and a betrayal of the people of Nagaland, particularly the families of the 14 civilians who were killed during the incident. The organisation emphasized that by absolving those responsible, the judicial system has failed in its duty to hold the perpetrators accountable.
The ENWO stated that the decision has only deepened the anguish of the victims' families and undermined the trust of the Naga people in the justice system. "It sends a dangerous message of impunity, devaluing the lives of our people," the release read.
The organisation demanded that the authorities reconsider the decision and reopen the investigation to ensure justice is served, reiterating that the Oting massacre remains a "stain on the nation" that must be addressed.
