A special programme on Raksha Bandhan was organized at Battalion HQ of 37 Border Security Force (BSF) Campus, Chedema, Kohima on August 28. Darshana Jardosh, minister of State for Railway &Textiles, (Government of India) who was currently in Nagaland, joined the programme. Surendra Pratap Singh, Second-In-Command (OC Rear) 37 Battalion, Border Security Force welcomed union minister and expressed gratitude for being amongst troops who remain away from their families and homes in the line of duties to ensure security and integrity of country 24x7 throughout year. Darshana Jardosh also planted a sapling at officer Institute and further addressed the troops and motivated them. Later, she tied Rakhi on the hands of BSF personnel followed by distribution of sweets and wishes them long life.
The ICFAI University Nagaland celebrated National Sports Day at the campus on August 29. Dr Saundarjya Borbora, Vice Chancellor of IUN spoke on the significance of the day. A basketball shootout for boys and a volleyball tournament for girls were organised.The State Level EMRS cultural & literary fest was held at Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) Diphupar, Dimapur on August 29. Around 78 students from Tizit, Tuensang and Diphupar participated in the different categories of competition. The winners of the different categories are as follows: Group Folk Dance: EMRS Tizit; Story telling (Folk tales): Ngipom H Konyak of EMRS Tizit; Creative writing: Yanglechuba Y Chang EMRS Diphupar; Recitation: Chongmei EMRS Tizit; Painting: Puchio Herrick P EMRS Tuensang. (DIPR Photo) INTACH National Heritage Quiz 2023 was held at Don Bosco Institute for Development Learning, Dimapur on August 30. A total of 70 students of classes 7 to 10 from St Mary’s HSS, Ram Janaki HSS, El-Shaddai Academy, The Maple Tree School, Christian HSS, Hollotoli School, Delhi Public School and Charis High Academy participated in the quiz competition. The winning team Imkongsunep Longchar Class 10 C and Sentimoa Longkumer Class 9 C from DPS Dimapur emerged from the written and oral rounds to win the Dimapur Nagaland State Round. They will compete in the Regional Round at Guwahati and onwards to New Delhi for the National Championship if they win the Regional Round. The resource persons were Dr Esther Kath, DVBO/DSO, Dr C Zhekheli Chishi, District Epidemiologist and Kekhriele-u Angami Program Officer- Surveillance NISHTHA/Jhpeigo. They highlighted on the objectives of the training which is to re-orient the health workers to maintain consistency in reporting, ensuring quality reporting and scale up the performance of their particular Health Units. Dr K Akaho Sema, Dy CMO, Zunheboto delivered the keynote address; Dr Esther Kath gave a PPT presentation on district performance. On the birth anniversary of Hockey wizard Major Dhyanchand, National Sports Day and Felicitation programme for Sports Icon of Nagaland was organized at NU Lumami. Marathon competition was also organised for university students. Deputy Director of Sports, Dr Harish K Tiwari informed that NU felicitated Venuzo Dawhuo (Judo Medallist & Wrestler), 2Bendangakum (Mixed Martial Art), Longtsukumba (Kung Fu & Karate). N Albert Khizho (Registrar i/c) graced the programme as chief guest and Dr Rumi Dhar was present as compare.A farewell programme for the outgoing SP Longleng, Dr Pritpal Kaur, IPS was held at SP’s office, Longleng on August 29. DC Longleng, Dharam Raj IAS appreciated the SP for her selfless work and called her a “People’s SP” who worked in all spheres for the society. Dr Kaur in her farewell speech thanked all the police personnel, departments and NGOs for their support and cooperation during her stay in the district. (DIPR Photo) Tuensang district takes a step forward in enhancing public awareness and addressing gender imbalances with the installation of a Guddi-Gudda Board at District Hospital. This initiative, conducted in collaboration with the District Administration and the District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), aims to improve the Sex Ratio at Birth (SRB) in the region. The installation of the board, carried out under the guidance of BBBP Tuensang, took place on August 28. The Guddi-Gudda Board will provide real-time updates on the number of male and female newborns delivered at the District Hospital, serving as a visual representation of the ongoing efforts to achieve gender parity.
