Nagaland: News in Pictures

Nearly a month after the Gauhati High Court Kohima Bench on July 16 directed the State Government to ensure urgent removal of the PHED pipeline (inset) from the location for the expansion of the Chathe River bank, the site remained unchanged as of August 11. On the other side, the condition of the riverbank appeared to have further deteriorated. The Court had instructed the Chief Secretary to take urgent steps through the PHED for shifting or removal of the pipeline and to file an affidavit, reiterating earlier orders. The Court is expected to take up the matter again this week. (Morung Photo)

The high-tensile rockfall protection system along the Tsiedukhru Range (Pagla Pahar) stretch of National Highway-29, a site prone to frequent rockslides, is seen uprooted on August 11. Workers said the main poles are buried at least 10 feet underground, with metal ring nets to arrest falling rocks. Counsel for the contractor, M/S Maccaferri Infrastructure Pvt Ltd, earlier told the Gauhati High Court Kohima Bench that of six locations awarded, five have been completed, while the May 30, 2025 incident which resulted in human casualties occurred at the unfinished sixth site. On August 11, workers were seen installing more barriers, but breaches were also visible at several locations along the stretch. (Morung Photo)
