The Department of Economics, ICFAI University Nagaland and the university’s IQAC, in collaboration with CICEs (Centre for Indigenous Culture and Environmental Studies) organised a talk on “Forests and Food” to commemorate the International Day of Forests on March 21. Resource person and a member of CICEs, Dr Martemjen, emphasised on the importance of forests in food production and sustainability and further enlightened the audience with the Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS) of the NAGOYA Protocol which gives a certain proportion of benefit to the original holders of traditional knowledge. He stressed upon preservation of the indigenous knowledge based Jhum cultivation in preserving the traditional and indigenous farming knowledge.
The Kivong-kivheli Foundation Longleng organized a seminar for women members of the district under the theme 'Womens Health and Mental Health.’ The seminar was funded by DUDA Kohima. Dr Y Lipok Phom, MO District Hospital Longleng spoke on the medical perspective while Meilung Phom took the session on clinical perspective.Micro Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion Council of India Office & Training Centre was launched at St John Sector A, Tuensang on March 22 with Deputy Commissioner, Tuensang, Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa as the special guest of the launching programme. State Chairman, MSME PCI Nagaland, Lanuakum Jamir, highlighting the objective of MSME PCI remarked that MSME is the backbone of the state’s economy where 30% of the GDP comes for the sector. The gate was inaugurated by Dr Khonsao Alex, Additional Director, Health and family Welfare Government of Nagaland. The welcome gate is constructed under LADP 2024-25 funded by MLA Achumbemo Kikon, 40 AC and Chairman SDPDB Bhandari.The 6th-semester students of Norman Putsure College, Chümoukedima undertook an educational visit to a poultry farm located in Vidima village. Accompanied by four assistant professors, a total of 53 students were part of the visit. The comprehensive tour provided insights into the world of chicken and duck poultry, as well as egg production. The Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament (District Level) was held at St Joseph’s College (A), Jakhama Kohima as the Nodal institution for four districts: Kohima, Phek and Zunheboto on March 21 and 22. A total number of 340 individuals aged 18 to 25 years from the four districts registered for the Event. The participants recorded and uploaded one minute video on the topic “What Viksit Bharat Means to Me?” to My Bharat portal. Cash prize was given to the top three winners and certificates were given to all the participants.
