Organised by Mokokchung District Tobacco Control Cell, World No Tobacco Day was observed at Straightway Hr Sec School, Mokokchung on May 31. Nukshiwati, District Consultant NTCP stressed on the tobacco industry influences and interferes with young people spending around 8 billion dollars a year on various forms of advertising by using deceptive marketing tactics like Digital and social media advertising. Posters and essay competitions were held for the students on the theme ‘Protecting Children from Tobacco Industry Indifference.’ Cash prize along with certificates were presented to the winners. Students also took ‘Anti Tobacco Pledge.’
Unity Christian Higher Secondary School on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day organised a peaceful rally around their school area in 4th mile, Diphupar on May 31. The school also held poster making and showed video clips relating to the theme ‘Protecting Children from Tobacco Industry Interference.’MGM Higher Secondary School, Dimapur observed World No Tobacco Day on May 31. Vice President, Rev Fr Giju George in his speech enlightened the students on the ill effects of tobacco usage in the life of a student and also urged the students to stop indulging in such bad habits which will destroy their young and delicate life. Principal Reji Abraham urged students to abstain from the use of tobacco products, always be an anti-tobacco warrior by enlightening others about the harmful effects of tobacco consumption. All the students and staff members took an anti-tobacco pledge. A poster campaign on the Ill effects of tobacco use was under taken by the secondary and higher secondary students of the school.Pranab Vidyapith Higher School, Dimapur observed World No Tobacco Day on May 31 at the school premises. Nicolas, a student of class-12, Science Stream and Vivek Saha, a higher secondary teacher said delivered speech. Students from Nursery to Class-12 participated the occasion by displaying placards, pamphlets and Banners alongwith anti tobacco slogan.Ram Janaki Hr Sec School, Dimapur, observed World No Tobacco Day on May 31 during the school assembly to foster a healthier, tobacco-free environment for the students. The programme included drawing competition, poster display etc. Saint John School Diphupar ‘B’, Chümoukedima celebrated the World No Tobacco Day and it’s first-ever Watermelon Festival. Special guest Regina Kithan, Program Lead of the Morung Project under DAN, spoke on the theme, highlighting its observance and raising awareness among students about the deadly effects of tobacco use. School Captain Master Longo led a pledge on ‘Say No To Tobacco’ for the students. Johny Abraham, Headmaster, gave a brief note on the idea to merge the two events and expressed his hopes to make the Watermelon Festival an annual programme in the school. A total of 15 students from Nirmal Bhartia School, Delhi with three staff members, visited Sainik School, Punglwa, as part of their Cultural Exchange and National Integration Tour of Nagaland. The tour is organised under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North). During the visit, students were shown the school's infrastructure and facilities, including the NDA Motivational Hall, academic block, cadets' mess, and the sports area. To commemorate their visit, the students planted sapling.
