An interaction-cum-press conference with local print and digital media persons of Nagaland was organised at Hotel Acacia on August 14 by Nagaland News Network (NNN), an English medium news and media portal based out from Guwahati.

Barasha Das, Editor of NNN in the first place explained that the fledgling news-site, under the backing of Tribes King Enterprise, will be officially launched on August 15, coinciding with the Indian Independence day celebrations. “Hopefully in the coming months we would like to spread to the other North-Eastern states,” she said.

The team of NNN currently comprises of 5 individuals including her but admitted that the organisation will be hiring more people in the days to come. “We would like to have correspondents in all the 16 districts,” she noted.

Das also reasoned that NNN will act as a catalyst towards highlighting news and information at the regional as well as the national level. But added, “We don’t intend to harm or malign anybody...or do any kind of negative reporting, whatever we do it will be done based on facts and figures.”

Regretting that most of the featured news stories coming out of the Northeast region at the national level have not been properly represented or are portrayed in a poor manner repeatedly, Das stressed for the need to bring out positive and successful news stories, “and we hope to bring out all these things.” Additionally noting that the team will focus on issues primarily at the grassroots and rural areas.

She further revealed that NNN currently has a functioning news website, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages. While an office will be established soon in the city of Dimapur.

Apart from the usage of English for their news portals, Das alluded to the idea of using Nagamese in reference to their videos, so as to connect more with the local people, she emphasised.

“We will do our best to make a balanced reporting,” she stated.
