Livingstone Foundation Hr. Sec. School, Dimapur observed World No Tobacco Day 2018 with theme ‘Tobacco and Heart Disease’ on May 31. During the morning assembly at both the Senior and Junior High sections, short speeches on the ill-effects of tobacco and the values related with the observance of the day were delivered by students and teachers. Junior students led by the mentors took out a short procession to the Senior Block carrying placards with messages on the awareness of the menace of tobacco while Senior students went around the suburbs of the school in Kevijau and Thahekhu villages. Painting and essay competitions on tobacco awareness for Senior students and a special Debate Competition for Junior students were also conducted.

School conducted seminars for class 11 and 12 Science and Arts and Class 8 to Class 1 on the theme “Impact tobacco has on the cardiovascular health of people worldwide.” It was highlighted during the seminars that tobacco use is an important risk factor for the development of coronary heart disease, stroke, and peripheral vascular disease.[/caption] [caption id="attachment_368221" align="aligncenter" width="800"] Students of St. Thomas High School perform a street play highlighting the ill-effects of tobacco and its product at Naga Gaon junction, Dimapur. The students accompanied by their teachers also conducted procession around the locality holding placards on anti-tobacco slogans and messages on May 31.[/caption] [caption id="attachment_368222" align="aligncenter" width="800"] To commemorate World No Tobacco Day, MGM HSS organized poster making competition and a special programme where children participated by presenting plays and speech. The graphic and sticking posters which sent a powerful message about the ill effects of taking tobacco were also displayed. The Gregorians lead by Head Master B.Paul conducted an oath taking where leaders of the school and the Anti Tobacco Cell vowed not to fall into the habit of taking tobacco or tobacco related products. MGM HSS was declared a Tobacco Free School in 2013 by the district authority and by the state in 2016.[/caption] [caption id="attachment_368223" align="aligncenter" width="800"] Dr. Ester, JDS, District Hospital with MD of Cornerstone along with the quiz competition winners.[/caption] [caption id="attachment_368224" align="aligncenter" width="800"] The Trained Nurses’ Association of India and the Student Nurses’ Association, Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research Unit, Dimapur commemorated the World No Tobacco Day with a series of sessions on health education given to employees of the hospital, and the in-patient and out-patient areas. A competition on Audio visual aids based on the theme among the nurses and nursing students was held. Participants of the tobacco education programme were encouraged had to take a smokerlyzer carbon monoxide breath test. Nicotine patch and gums were given after counselling to those participants who were motivated to quit tobacco. Dr. C. Tetse-o, Nodal Officer, Tobacco Control, Dimapur was the theme speaker (Tobacco and Heart Diseases). Dr. Sedevi Angami, Director, CIHSR also spoke during the programme.[/caption] [caption id="attachment_368225" align="aligncenter" width="800"] World No Tobacco Day under the theme ‘Tobacco and Heart Disease-Tobacco Breaks Heart’ was celebrated at Immanuel College at the College auditorium on May 31. The speakers were S.C Singh Principal, Immanuel College and Vepu, Asst Professor. Chaired by Khumli, invocation by Eyilobeni, song was presented by Chubalong, Art of painting by Temjensunep, the programme concluded with a benediction by Temjen Longkumer, Asst Professor, Department of Education.[/caption] [caption id="attachment_368227" align="aligncenter" width="800"] MGM College Dimapur observed World No Tobacco day on May 31. Principal, Fr. Shibu Varghese presented a PPT on the ill effects of tobacco. Students of BA 3rd semester took an oath not use tobacco in any forms and give maximum awareness to the people around about the ill effects of Tobacco. A talk on tobacco awareness and its effects was presented by the resource person, Dr. Moatoshi Aier MD, Eden Medical Centre, Dimapur, followed by singing competition. Dr. Moatoshi had an interesting panel discussion with the students and faculty after which he kept the audience attuned with his talk on ill effects of tobacco use with facts and video clips. Dr. Moatoshi Aier also encouraged the audience to be the ambassador for No Tobacco.
