Dimapur, August 23 (MExN): The National People’s Party (NPP), Nagaland State unit campaigned in different localities for its National President Conrad K Sangma, who is seeking a seat in the 60-member Meghalaya Assembly and retain his Chief Minstership.
South Tura and Ranikor Assembly constituencies in Meghalaya went for the by-elections on August 23 and the present Chief Minister and MP of Meghalaya Sangma contested from 51/ South Tura Constituency.
According to a press release from the state unit, the campaign was led by State President, Ato Yepthomi along with NPP MLA, Imnatiba, Advisor Industries & Commerce and L Khumo Khiamniungan, Advisor Fisheries, Evaluation, Economics & Statistics.
A delegation of youth leaders from Arunachal, Manipur and Nagaland converged in Tura to drum up support for Sangma, the release mentioned, the release from Ricky Ozukum, IPR Secretary, NPP State unit informed.
Meanwhile, the IANS News Agency reported that voting ended peacefully on Thursday in the Assembly by-elections in South Tura and Ranikor in Meghalaya, with NPP candidate Conrad Sangma saying he was confident of winning his seat.
The polling percentage till 5 p.m. was 72.89 per cent in South Tura and 85.89 per cent in Ranikor, the report added quoting the state Chief Electoral Officer Frederick Roy Kharkongor.
