Kohima, March 17 (MExN): The Chairman of the Nagaland State Biodiversity Board (NSBB) and Principal Secretary for the Department of Forests, Environment and Climate Change, Y Kikheto Sema has called for greater public awareness on biodiversity conservation and traditional knowledge.
Addressing the 15th Board Meeting of the NSBB held on March 16 at the Conference Hall of the Forest Office Complex, Kohima, he highlighted the importance of coordination among various departments for biodiversity conservation in the state.
Stating that substantial biological diversity in Nagaland exists even outside conserved forests, Sema also urged board members and functionaries to create awareness among the general public on the conservation of biodiversity and traditional knowledge related to the use and conservation of natural resources.
He also advised officials of the board to propose innovative activities for biodiversity conservation in the state and to submit such proposals to the State Government and the National Biodiversity Authority.
The meeting was attended by Vedpal Singh, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Head of Forest Force, Nagaland; Sidramappa M. Chalkapure, CCF and Member Secretary of the State Biodiversity Board, along with other members.
