Nagaland to observe World Consumer Rights Day 2017

Nagaland along with the rest of the world will be observing World Consumer Rights Day on March 15 under theme “Consumer Rights in the Digital Age.”  

The aim of the World Consumer Rights Day is to celebrate solidarity within the international consumer rights movement. 

In the state capital Kohima, the day will be observed under the aegis of Department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection, Govt of Nagaland and Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organization (NVCO) at 1: 00 PM at State College of Teacher Education (SCTE), Kohima.  

NVCO president Kezhokhoto Savi, advocate will be the speaker while keynote address will delivered by SCTE principal Hekishe Sema.  

Welcome address will be delivered by Haikambe Zeliang, assistant controller, Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection while vote of thanks will be proposed by Dr. Bendangyapangla.  

The first World Consumer Rights Day was observed on 15 March 1983, and has since become an important occasion for mobilizing citizen action.  

The Consumer Protection Act, 1986 was passed keeping in view the need to protect consumers.  

Department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection, Govt of Nagaland informed that in case of a consumer related problem, the Nagaland State Consumer Helpline can be contacted for counseling and authentic information.  

The state’s department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection stated that World Consumer Rights Day is an opportunity to promote the basic rights of all consumers, demanding that those rights are respected and protected, and a chance to protest against the market abuses and social injustices which undermine those rights.
