
CM outlines government's achievements in various fields
Kohima, August 15 (DIPR): Dwelling on public health infrastructure, the chief guest of the Independence Day celebration, Nagaland Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio said that the Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakram (JSSK) was launched on 4th August 2012 under the National Rural Health Mission to provide better health care especially to pregnant women, lactating mothers and new born babies and added that the number of health centre in the State has increased from 436 to 557. He said that another significant achievement has been the health coverage provided through health insurance scheme for BPL families under which free medical treatment upto Rs. 30,000 is provided to the families of the insured workers. Nagaland has been the number one State in the North East in the implementation of the scheme, under which 90,000 families have already been covered across the State and congratulated the Labour & Employment Department for winning national awards three times for enrolment of beneficiaries under this programme.
On the road and infrastructure sector development, he said that the State is making an earnest effort not to compromise on the quality of workmanship in Nagaland, so the State Quality Control Board has been constituted to monitor and oversee quality of work and materials used in all government departments and their agencies. He informed that the department has introduced the e-procurement system and further expressed his happiness on the development of 4 laning of NH 39 between Dimapur and Kohima.
Commenting on the commitment of the State towards reforms in the urban local governance, Rio informed that the government has created a separate Municipal Affairs Cell with a view to provide modern planned residential accommodation for urban poor, two major housing projects namely, Basic Services for Urban Poor (BSUP) and Integrated Housing and Slum Development Programme (IHSDP) are in advance stage of execution at Kohima and Dimapur respectively. He also added that to ease traffic congestion in the state capital two multi-level car parking are on the process of construction at old Medical Directorate and Kohima NST station.
On power sector Rio informed that the government is trying its best to improve the power distribution network and added that the state will soon bring a comprehensive power development policy, covering generation, transmission and distribution of power and further added that the power department has taken several steps to improve power supply management, including the establishment of a separate electricity regulatory commission. In order to harness new and renewable energy sources the government has created the department of New & Renewable Energy, he informed.
