Nagaland: ‘Oh Alokba’ Radio series released

Alokba is a memorable character in contemporary Ao literature, who made his first appearance in the local daily Ao Milen in the early 90s. Since then, the often-satirical Alokba who became the subject of the book ‘Oh Alokba,’ written by its creator and eminent writer T Senka Ao, has taken on a new avatar on the radio.
On February 28, a radio series titled ‘Oh Alokba’, produced by All India Radio Mokokchung and directed by Sentilong Ozukum was released here.
The radio series, which contains 10 episodes in the Ao vernacular language, is adapted from the book ‘Oh Alokba.’
According to Sentilong Ozukum who adapted and directed the series, the project was initiated with an aim to promote the Ao vernacular language among the younger generation and to give platform to young talents in the field of drama and arts. ‘Oh Alokba’ contains satirical plays dealing with culture, church and community of the Nagas. The director also conveyed that the script for Season 2 of the series is currently under process.
Alokba’s creator T. Senka Ao was optimistic that the radio series would be a medium through which the Ao vernacular language can be promoted. “Every ‘Oh Alokba’ story contains a philosophy and it narrates the truth,” he said adding that the series would a treat for people who listen to the radio, especially the elders.
All ten episodes of the first season of ‘Oh Alokba’ are available at the AIR Mokokchung’s YouTube channel. The cast for the ‘Oh Alokba’ series are Wabong Ozukum, Tongpangkumba Kichu, Panger Kichu, Temsurenla Lemtur and Satemrenla.
