Nagaland Olympic & Paralympic Games opens today

Dimapur, February 11 (MExN): The Nagaland Olympic & Paralympic Games 2024 will be officially inaugurated on February 12 at 7 PM at the Nagaland Cricket Stadium in Sovima. 

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio will grace the opening as a Special Guest, while Kalyan Chaubey, President of the All India Football Federation & Vice President of the Indian Olympic Association, and Girish Shenoy, Head of Sales at United Breweries, will be the Honored Guests at the inaugural ceremony.

The Games are scheduled to take place from February 12 to 17 across Dimapur and Chümoukedima districts in four sports arenas, nine sports complexes and facilities across the two districts. 

The main Games Village will be located at the Regional Centre for Sporting Excellence under the Chümoukedima district.

However, the events for certain games, including cricket and football, have already commenced. According to the Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA), all sports and games will be officially broadcasted on its YouTube channel.

Earlier, the NOA had announced that the 2024 Games will feature 15 sports disciplines, including Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Boxing, Cricket, Football, Lawn Tennis, Pencak Silat, Sepak Takraw, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Volleyball, Wrestling, Belt Wrestling and Wushu.  

With participation from all 16 districts of Nagaland, the games will host a total of 161 medal events.
