According to MLA Mhathung Yanthan, Nagaland is on the cusp of making a splash in entrepreneurial activities, especially in the agricultural sector. Yanthan, who is also the Advisor for Agriculture, said this as the curtain drew to a close on the 2nd Nagaland International Trade Expo (NITeX) organised by the Business Association of Nagas (BAN) at the Ao Senden Riju, Dimapur.
He said that there are other sectors where business enterprise can thrive but the agro sector is where “Our strength lies…
Unfortunately we have not been able to capitalise on the potential. So we need to work harder.” Otherewise, he said that there is no dearth of potential in terms of natural and human resources. “What we have seen (during the expo) testifies this. Nagaland is on the cusp of entrepreneurial growth, especially in the agro sector,” he added.
Terming trade expos as a platform where the entrepreneurs, policy makers and financial institutions come and work together, he maintained that the Nagaland government is also making a push to leverage startups through initiatives like the Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN).
He said that the objective of the IDAN is to promote entrepreneurs and attracts investors and “to capitalise on our potential.” He admitted that there are bottlenecks but ones which are not impossible to address.
“We also have to create conducive atmosphere for investors to come and set up business here and I am sure peaceful atmosphere will prevail. Things are looking up, the (security) situation has improved a lot,” he said, while requesting investors to come and partner with Nagaland.
