Nagaland Pencak Silat team clinches 10 medals at Khelo India Beach Games

Emerges Female Team Champion, Male Team 2nd Runner-up

KOHIMA, MAY 25 (MExN): The Nagaland Pencak Silat Team delivered an impressive performance at the inaugural Khelo India Beach Games, winning a total of 10 medals — four gold, two silver, and four bronze — and securing the Team Champion title in the female category and second runner-up in the male category.

The event, organized by the Sports Authority of India under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, was held over six days and witnessed participation from 1,350 athletes representing 29 States and 7 Union Territories. The Pencak Silat events were conducted by the Indian Pencak Silat Federation.

Among the medalists in the Tanding (sparring) event, Jon, Kevin, Liike Kibami, and Nyia K. Thono claimed gold. Hatneinem Khongsai bagged silver, while Avikali V. Sheqi took home bronze. In the artistic events, female athletes Hinokali, Dausanliu Rentta, and Avikali V. Sheqi earned silver in the Regu (group) event, and Edwina Lhinghoithem Hanghal secured a bronze in the Tunggal (solo) category. In the male artistic segment, Jon, Kevin, and Altab Uddin Choudhury won bronze in the Regu event, and Kevin also received a bronze in the creative solo category.

The team was led by President and Team Manager Shri Khevishe Sema, Head Coach Deep Kumar, and Female Coach Alice D. Chishi. Their guidance and support were credited as instrumental in the team’s success.

The Nagaland Pencak Silat Association expressed gratitude to the Sports Authority of India for including Pencak Silat in the Khelo India Beach Games, and to the Department of Youth Resources and Sports, Government of Nagaland — including Director Kethosituo Sekhose, Additional Director Megolhou Dolie, Assistant Director Nyuvitho Nyuthe, and Youth Resources Officer Naroenla — for their continuous support.
