
In response to the need for quality piano education in Nagaland, the first ever Nagaland Piano Teachers Association (NPTA) has been formed with a Board of Directors made up of notable Naga music educators: Khyochano TCK Ngully (President),Bethel Tsuzu (General Secretary) Sahu Peseyie (Treasurer) Zingrin Shishak, Dr.Vivee Peseyie, Ezono Kithan John, and Jaremdi Wati Longchar (member NPTA). The purpose of the association is to raise the quality of piano teaching, performance, and research in Nagaland by providing a platform for piano teachers and educators to discuss/exchange ideas on music practices and advancements in piano pedagogy through conferences, seminars, concerts, workshops etc. NPTA also aims at creating a support system to encourage, to stimulate, to create educational opportunities; all through a wide variety of activities for its members and their students. This fraternity will also focus on promoting high professional standard in piano performance and carry on the responsibility to raise and maintain a high level of artistic and educational piano leadership in the state. For any individual seeking membership to the association, the requirement is a minimum qualification of Grade 8 (piano practical) with Grade 5(music theory) from a recognised music board (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, Trinity College London, or London College of Music). An exception to the above is made in cases where in the teacher possesses a minimum of 10 years teaching experience. An NPTA certificate endorsing the teacher/member will be awarded to each member. This is to validate the teacher’s assured qualification and provide an opportunity for all students and parents to inquire about the quality of teaching sought or received. There shall also be a registration fee of Rs. 1000 for all NPTA members which shall be renewed yearly.
