Nagaland police arrests ‘drug smuggler’

Kohima, June 16 (MExN): A suspected drug smuggler was arrested by the state police along with 2.820 Kgs of suspected local made brown sugar (extracted from Opium plant and dried into fine powder) worth around Rs 20 lakh on June 15. 

According to a press release from the Superintendent of Police (Crime) &PRO,PHQ Kohima, the personnel of Crime Investigation Department (CID) Branch Dimapur based on reliable input detained the accused from  the Dimapur Blue Hill station.

Upon search, one black coloured polybag containing about 2.820 Kg (in 3 packets) of suspected local made brown sugar was recovered and seized from the possession of the suspect, the release said.  

The police identified the accused as Somi Valui Tangkhul of Snakathei village under Ukhrul Police Station, Manipur.

The seized items along with the accused were later handed over to East Police Station and a case under the NDPS Act has been registered for further investigation, it added.
