
KOHIMA, SEPTEMBER 20 (MExN): Opium said to be worth approximately Rs. 1 crore was intercepted in transit by the Nagaland Police in two separate incidents. The contraband, including a firearm, were confiscated at the inter-state Khuzama police check post on September 19 and 20 and five persons were arrested in these connection, stated a press release from the PRO of the Kohima Police.
The contraband weighing 13kgs in total was recovered from two vehicles crossing into Nagaland from Manipur. The consignment intercepted on September 20 weighed 5kgs and was recovered from a Mahindra Bolero (MN 05A 8405). Four occupants in the vehicle, who were identified as Letkholal Guite, G. Seikhohao, Neijahat and Lhaineikim Haokip, were arrested. The released added that all four hailed from Churachandpur district.
It occurred barely 12 hours after police personnel at the same check-post recovered opium weighing 8kgs from another vehicle, which also crossing into Nagaland from Manipur. According to the release, it was recovered from a Maruti Swift Dzire (MN 06LA 4868), driven by a 57 year-old man, who was identified Naorem Suraj Meitei hailing from Imphal East. One .32 pistol with 18 rounds were also confiscated, the release added. When contacted for further details, the PRO said that the consignments originated from Manipur, while its destination point was yet to be established.
