Two fighters spar during the finals of boxing competition in the ongoing 39th Nagaland Police Duty-cum-Sports Meet 2021 at the NAPTC Stadium, Chümoukedima on November 17.

The penultimate day of the ongoing 39th Nagaland Police Duty-cum-Sports Meet 2021 on November 17 saw the highly popular and anticipated boxing finals, at the Nagaland Armed Police Training Centre (NAPTC) Stadium Chümoukedima.
The popularity of the game was apparent as spectators filled the gallery, even before the start of the first bout, starting 4PM, which swelled further as the evening progressed.
By 5PM, the gallery was fully packed, and a bigger crowd witnessed the proceedings from the sprawling football ground adjoining the boxing arena.
The fighters did not disappoint, and the finals featured some exciting bouts, including knockouts and ‘throwing in of towels’ as the fighters combat for their units’ pride, with matches from ‘Minimum Weights’ (48 kgs) to Super Heavy Weight (92+ Kgs) category.
As the pugilist battled, supporters from different units ‘spared’ on the sidelines, to encourage and uplift their fighters, adding a festive mood and amplifying the arena.
The proceedings went like a well-oiled machine, and significantly, most officials including referees, were women, who umpired the matches smooth and tidy.
After battling with some excellent class of boxing, the pugilist from 11 NAP (IR) Bn won the most of the Gold Medal and topped the leader board. The Battalion ended the finals with 3 Gold and 1 Silver and 3 Bronze medals.
The 13 NAP (IR) Bn came next with 3 Gold and 1 Silver, followed by 12 NAP (IR)with 2 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze.
Meanwhile, update from the Nagaland Police informed that the tenth day also featured final football event.
In the final, defending champion 6 NAP Bn defeated debutant NAP Rangers (STF) 3-0. With this, the 6 NAP Bn successfully defended the title for the third time in a row.
The 39th edition will conclude on November 18 with the Deputy Chief Minister & Home Minister, Y Patton gracing the closing ceremony as the Special Guest.
