Nagaland Police today joined the rest of the country in paying homage and rich tribute to the supreme sacrifices made by 473 police personnel, including two from Nagaland during September 2015 to August 2016.

Two police personnel from Nagaland who made supreme sacrifice included A. Khekato Chishi and R. Bermong Yimchunger.

Observing the Police Commemoration Day held here at Police New Reserve, Phesama, in Kohima district, Nagaland DGP LL Doungel, IPS including several top police officers and others laid the wreaths at the martyr’s cenotaph in honour and remembrance of the police personnel who made supreme sacrifice. Doungel said October 21 every year is observed as Police Commemoration Day across the country as a mark of respect to the brave police martyrs who made supreme sacrifice in line of duty and defending the country.

He recalled that the history of the day traces back to October 21, 1959 when a patrol party of CRPF, led by SI Karan Singh and 10 jawans guarding the national frontiers, was ambushed and killed by Chinese forces at Hot Springs, Ladakh.

He said that we are not force to join police but we join by own volition and urged upon the police personnel to prepare to do whatever is demanded and make Nagaland police shine.

Earlier, Temsuba Aier, IPS, AIGP (Ops), (OPS) read out the roll of honour.
