Nagaland DGP, T John Longkumer, today said Nagaland Police is “on the move” and exuded confidence that the state police force would live up to its motto “Security, Service, Sacrifice.”

The state police chief said among the state police forces in the country, Nagaland is the second state to launch the Emergency Response System and that the Nagaland Arm Police (NAP) would soon be setting up a Special Task Force (STF).

Addressing the ceremonial attestation parade of 55th batch NAP/IR and Home Guards & Civil Defence cadet havildars and recruit constables at NAPTC Parade Ground, Chümoukedima, Longkumer said the STF would be in the lines of SWAT/SEAL and STF personnel would be equipped with the best weapons and mobility.

He also said the nascent Tourist Police of the state police has caught the eyes of the world by ensuring a peaceful and incident- free environment during the Hornbill Festival.

Expounding on the motto of the state police, the DGP said the officers and personnel of NP should consider their calling as a “blessed duty” and therefore perform their duty of providing security to the citizens with joy and pride.

Terming the newly inducted officers and personnel as ‘Young Naga warriors”, Longkumer said they have begun a new chapter in their lives and the service and duty they perform in the initial years would have bearings on their careers in the long run.

Referring to the Chhattisgarh experience where the Naga personnel showed exemplary courage and grit and the recent Phulama attack, he said the NP personnel must always be alert and mentally prepared.

On the Chief Minister’s reported assurance earlier to grant 15% of basic pay as extra allowance to instructors and recruits, the DGP hoped that this would come into effect soon.

Underscoring “credibility” as the focal point of the force, the state police chief asked “Are we credible in the eyes of the public and villagers? This is a challenge.”

“It is our desire to make Nagaland Police the best police force in the country”, Longkumer said and urged for team work and coordinated effort to achieve this.

Commandant, NAPTC, Ben Longkumer, in his report of the training informed that 376 trainees including eight cadet havildars and 368 recruit constables successfully completed the training. Other highlights of the programme included parade review by IGP (Trg & Bdr) Nagaland, Liremo Tsopoe Lotha, administration of oath and presentation of trophies and certificates.
