DIMAPUR, MAY 5 (MExN): In order to mitigate the problem of substance abuse, drug addiction/abuse and alcoholism amongst police personnel and to help rehabilitate them, the Unit Commanders have been asked to identify all such personnel in their respective units, who may be allowed to proceed to undertake medical treatment or to rehab centres as the case may be with intimation to the PHQ. This was directed in an order issued by the Nagaland DGP, Rupin Sharma, IPS. “During such period they shall be treated as on duly and on leave and no salary shall be deducted if leave is admissible and available to the person concerned,” it stated. Further it directed the respective Unit Commanders to closely monitor all such cases and report the progress and improvement of their conditions to the PHQ after completion of rehab/medical treatment period. Unit Commanders have also been asked to identify and encourage such personnel to undertake rehab and inform the personnel that failure to undergo rehab and subsequent arrest/detention would lead to disciplinary proceedings as well as criminal cases.
