Nagaland: ‘Post-matric scholarship will be released from Dec 20’

After a prolonged delay, the State government has notified the release of Post-Matric Scholarship (PMS) for students of Nagaland beginning from December 20 onwards. The total amount sanctioned for it was Rs 29,16,67,000 and will be for ST students of Nagaland, 90% Central Share and 10% State Share for two different financial years, i.e. 2nd installment of 2022-23 and 1st installment of 2023-24, stated an official notification.    

Relaying this to the students via social media, Minister of Higher Education, Temjen Imna Along on December 18 shared, “Dear students, thank you all for your patience. The PMS will be finally released from December 20 onwards. Inconvenience regretted.” 

Earlier the All Nagaland Students Union (ANSU) had also urged the department and authority concerned to immediately complete the withdrawal proceedings on exigency to ensure the disbursal of the 2nd installment of CSS-PMS ST 2022-2023 to student beneficiaries before December 22.   

It was reported that several students had already received their second installment before the expected date. 

Meanwhile, the All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) in a press release stated that as informed by the Directorate of Higher Education, students whose names are on the beneficiary list but failed to receive their scholarship to claim it within 90 days.

While conveying their gratitude, the union said it ‘takes into account that the State Government and Minister concerned have serious solicitude for the well-being of the student's community.’

The union also expresses gratitude to college authorities, faculty, college students' union units, students and well-wishers for the outstanding support and cooperation throughout the year. 

It also informed that the office of ANCSU will remain closed starting from December 22 to January 15, 2024. “It is with immense joy to greet you all an advent Merry Christmas and Happiest of New Year 2024,” the union added.
