Nagaland: Power dept issues notice for removal of cables, wires, pipes from electric poles

DIMAPUR, JANUARY 24 (MExN): The Department of Power, Nagaland has issued a notice to all concerned that any type of cables, wires, pipes etc strung between electric poles within any town jurisdiction should be removed within three months from the date of issue of this notification.

The notice, which was issued by Er Khose Sale, Chief Engineer (D&R) Department of Power, Kohima said cables, wires, popes strung between poses hazard to persons involved in repair/maintenance works of the lines besides hindering line maintenance/repair works, increasing the probability of accidents/fatalities.


It also informed that Section 53 sub-sections 1 (a) & (b) of the Electricity Act, 2003 also provides for mitigating such risks. The Act states that the authority may in consultation with the state government, specify suitable measures for “protecting the public from dangers arising from the generation, transmission or distribution or trading of electricity, or use of electricity supplied or installation, maintenance or use of any electric line or electrical plant; eliminating or reducing the risks of personal injury to any person, or damage to property of any person or interference with use of such property.”
