Nagaland provided employment to 28,000 households

DIMAPUR, APRIL 25 (MExN): The National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) which was initially launched in just one district of Nagaland has added another four districts in the year 2007-08. 

Out of the 28,000 households who demanded employment in Nagaland, all 28,000 were provided employment up to January, 2007. The average number of households provided employment in a district of Nagaland is 27,800 while the national average is 91,685 households. The number of person days of employment provided in the State is 11.82 lakh. The average person days of employment provided in a district is 11.82 lakh compared to the national average of 36.47 lakh person days.

It was revealed that an amount of Rs. 4.30 crore had been released to the State during 2006-07 out of which the utilization up to January 2007, is seen to be Rs. 13.28 crore, which is 89% of the total availability.The expenditure on wages was further found to be 58.16%, while 39.39% was on materials  and 2.45% on administration.

The average expenditure of a district in the State is Rs. 13.28 crore compared to the National average of Rs. 35 crore. The Act provides that 1/3rd of the employment provided should be to women and in Nagaland 29.95% persons days of employment has been provided to women and 100% to members of ST.
